As people live longer, the need to provide aged-care facilities and in-home support increases, but existing facilities and resources struggle to keep up with ever-increasing demands for care and support.
The Australian Research Council Industrial Transformation Research Hub for Digital Enhanced Living (or ARC Research Hub for Digital Enhanced Living) is funded by the Australian government and industry partners.
The Hub builds and adapts personalised technologies and support infrastructure for “intelligent sensed spaces” in residences – both in-home and managed-care facilities – that realise the related but different needs of both high-quality aging in place and high quality disability and rehabilitation support.
Ultimately, the Hub will create a new research and development ecosystem for digital enhanced living involving a range of small businesses and large companies for device, software, integration and deployment of novel medical technologies; revenue from new and repurposed devices, analytics and integration platforms; and new jobs in these areas.
